After more than a decade as the local dealer, Valdosta, Georgia Cook representative Tommy Sheppard, knows about selling Cook buildings.
And after growing up, going to school and working in the Valdosta, Georgia area his entire life, he knows how to find the perfect Cook building for every local customer.
Tommy who has been working in sales his whole professional life was drawn to that career choice because of his interest in meeting new people and matching their needs with the best possible product.
With Cook, he started as a dealer manager but now enjoys the more hands-on day to day activities of working as the Cook dealer in Valdosta. He also likes working by himself because he is a self-motivated person.
His lot, in town just two miles from the mall area, is conveniently located right off the highway and easy to get to for residents of smaller bordering towns like Quitman and Homerville in Georgia and Madison, Florida. It has been a staple in the community for more than 15 years.
He mentions the visibility of the lot as well as Cook’s long standing presence in the community for its ongoing success.
Tommy describes Valdosta as the perfect sized town, small enough to easily put names with faces but big enough to have plenty going on. One big thing that makes Valdosta special is the historical success of its high school football team the Wildcats.
When residents of Valdosta, GA come by the Cook lot they shouldn’t expect a high pressure sales approach. Customers will get a smile, a handshake and a conversation about their storage needs.
“Sometimes I take the customer on a tour of our Cook buildings, other times they take me on a tour,” he said.
His lot has mostly new buildings with some pre-owned options as well. Typically, there are 35 or more buildings on-site depending on the season. And, he has all the shed styles including the new and unique Tool Shed and Handyman buildings.
He points out increased interest in these new building styles and the flexibility of Cook as a company that listens to customer feedback and continues to innovate. He said that’s what makes Cook the leader in the industry rather than just a follower of the trends.
Tommy is most proud of the prospective customers who come to his lot and hear all about the Cook building features, warranties, finishes and more. Then, after a few days of shopping around, they return to buy a Cook building!
“When they come back and say Cook has the best built buildings, it’s really gratifying because I know I’ve done my job well,” he said.
Some of the Cook customers in Valdosta, Georgia have also come back to buy multiple sheds. He mentioned one customer who supplemented her Cook storage building with another one she plans to turn into a She Shed as a clothing boutique and another who turned his into a jam room!
