Clean your gutters

Clogged gutters can be problematic and cause water damage to the exterior and interior of your home.  Ignored gutters can also lead to faster rust and corrosion. Your gutters work hard to divert gallons of water from your house’s foundational walls, so it’s vital to keep them flowing smoothly.

Before leaves begin to fall, clean your gutters out and cover them with a mesh guard to reduce the number of leaves that could return. After most of the leaves have fallen from your trees, clean your gutters and downspouts again then flush them with water.

Also, inspect the joins and tighten any loose brackets, if necessary. Replace gutters that are old or damaged with newer models that have a built-in leaf guard.

Take care of windows and doors

Check for gaps around your home’s windows and door frames. Sealing in any gaps with caulk and replacing weather-stripping will help reduce those winter heating bills. This is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to get your home ready.
