Spring is the perfect time to place houses up for sell, if your family is ready for a change of venue. Whether you need more or less space or are just moving to a new area, selling your home can be a stressful process.

The warmer weather will make it easier to get people to come out to open houses and hopefully make it a quicker sell! But there are always things that can help speed the process along. If you already sold your home and are looking for moving tips, read this blog post!

And if you’re the current owner of a Cook building, don’t worry about leaving that handy shed behind after you move. Our portable warehouses are designed for maximum mobility with notched floor skids, pulling and bridge blocks built into every floor system.

Here are 5 tips that you can easily do (for little or no cost) to make your home look more appealing to potential buyers.

Think about first impressions

First, you will need to remove any personal items so potential buyers can see themselves and their family in the home. So store away those family pictures, cards and other keepsakes until the selling process is complete.

Remember the first impression is key to selling success. Your home should make visitors feel welcome and at home. Curb appeal is important to make a great first impression. Add some bright colored flowers or inexpensive shrubs to the front yard or flower beds. Don’t forget the entryway too. Add a vase of flowers to make it brighter and friendlier.

Do small scale repairs

Most likely you will see a better return on your investment for small repairs versus large scale room makeovers. Some examples of relatively easy and inexpensive ways to spruce up your home include cleaning window treatments, replacing door handles, fixing leaky faucets and adding a fresh coat of paint.

Your home should always be ready to show. So keep the sink clear of dirty dishes, the bathrooms clean, surfaces dusted and floors sweep or vacuumed. You never know when a potential buyer will want to see your place!

Spotlight the kitchen

The kitchen is oftentimes the key to selling a house and receiving close to the asking price. An older, out-of-date kitchen can convince buyers to stay away.

Some easy ways to update your kitchen are painting walls with a neutral color and changing out the hardware on drawers or cabinets. Or invest in one stainless steel, high-end appliance, to elevate the entire room.

Make closets half empty (or half full)

Take about half of the stuff you currently have inside closets or drawers and neatly organize the remaining items. This makes the available storage space look bigger, which is typically high on a buyer’s priority list.

Brighten up your home

Adequate lighting from overhead lights and windows is another big must for many home buyers. So maximize the light you have by cleaning windows, changing lampshades, increasing the wattage of light bulbs or taking down large window coverings. A bright home is much more sellable then a dark, gloomy one.
