7 Tips for Turning your Portable Warehouse into a Survivalist Shed

No one knows for certain when an apocalypse or extreme catastrophe will occur. However, there are things we can do to prepare for such events. Will you be ready?

Just as everyone imagines the apocalypse a little differently, guidelines for doomsday preparations also vary. We’ve compiled a list of our own recommendations below!

  • Stockpile size

In the event of an apocalypse, how long should you be prepared to wait? It’s better to be safe than sorry.  Therefore, it’s recommended that your stockpile be enough to last you for at least 30 days.

  • Water

Water may be the most important thing to stockpile. If possible, you should store approximately one gallon of purified water per person per day for each of the 30 days.

  • Food

Be sure to keep an extensive supply of non-perishable, ready-to-eat food items. Choose foods that have a high nutritional value and will keep you feeling fuller longer. Peanut butter and granola bars are good examples.

Regularly check the expiration dates on these foods to ensure that your stockpile is always ready for consumption. Don’t forget about the animals either. If you have any pets, make sure to keep plenty of their food on hand as well.

  • Clothing

Keep a couple changes of clothing for each member of your family. You never know what sort of conditions you’ll be going through during an apocalypse. Having layers is best because you can always add or remove them.

  • First aid

Bandages, antibiotic ointment, and gauze are all good first aid items to have in your supply. Also stock up on non-prescription medications, such as aspirin, pain relievers, multivitamins, and antacids.

  • Other supplies

Keep a collection of toiletries and basic personal care items ready. You may also want to prepare things like a battery-operated radio, flashlights, extra batteries, signal flares, and a compass. Duct tape, pocketknives, candles, and lots of matches are great items to have as well.

  • A secure place for your stockpile

Now that you have an idea of what your stockpile will include, you must choose the best place to secure these items. Because this stockpile will be an on-going collection, you should choose a place that’s easy to access but won’t get in the way of your daily life in the meantime.
