When purchasing a shed there are a lot of factors to consider. And one of the main questions you’ll ask is, “What size shed do I need?”

If you’re not sure how to decide on the right shed, here are some questions you need to ask no matter where you search for a shed. (Though we’re pretty confident if you do, you’ll stick with Cook!)

Many of our local dealers have expressed that their customers too many times think they need a smaller shed than they really do. Once customers explain their purpose and space they’re working with, our dealers will direct them to the shed style and size they actually need.

Our shed dealer in Raytown, MO actually suggests you choose a shed size larger than what you think you’ll need. The downfall many customers make is that they only purchase what they need in the moment. They look at the items they have, lawn mower, tiller, some storage boxes etc, and think they need one size, but there are other things to consider.

Here’s why you should pick out the size you need and then go up at least 1 to 2 sizes larger. Our dealers don’t push this decision out of greed. Countless times customers come back and say they wish they had bought the larger one.

So remember these three things when you’re deciding on the size of your portable building.

You want room to walk.

There’s nothing more frustrating than having your shed somewhat organized, but it’s so packed that you have to unpack everything to get the one box you need out. So keep in mind the size pathway you’ll need to get the items you use most out of the shed.

You want room to work.

If you enjoy gardening or woodworking or even just doing a few small projects for your home, you may want an outside workspace besides your kitchen floor. So, make sure if this is you, that you pick a shed that will have enough space for you to walk through and work in when the need arises. You might think of building a workbench inside your shed or adding a table for projects.

You want room for future collections.

You may not want to collect more stuff right now, but as time goes on there will be sentimental items you don’t want to part with. Or your kids will need extra storage space. Or you’ll decide to get a bigger and better lawn mower. No matter how much you think you won’t need more space…someone else in your family probably has another idea! So, make sure you have some extra space for future collections, whatever that may be.
