Spring is here and along with all the cleaning and organizing in your home, your Cook shed also needs a little TLC to get it ready for the upcoming warmer months. It’s also a good time to think about those things that got thrown into your shed over the winter months and their level of necessity.

Although your Cook building stands strong through all types of weather, now is a good time to spruce up the inside and make things easier for your family. With a little strategic cleaning and organizing now, you will be ready for anything all season long.

Here are 4 keys to help get your shed (or garage if you haven’t invested in a Cook Portable Warehouse yet) ready for spring!

Give the space a good cleaning

Of course the first item on our list is more spring cleaning! But it’s the essential first step to getting your storage space ready for spring. First, sweep and hose down the floor and knock down any cobwebs. Then, wipe down all surfaces and dust them.

Spray down any lawn furniture and touch up the paint job if needed. Wash any outdoor pillows, cushions and towels in a hot water setting to remove any mold or mildew. A mixture of water and vinegar makes a great and inexpensive cleaning agent!

Get organized

Take most or all of the stuff you are storing out and begin by grouping like items together. Categories could include things like sports equipment or automotive supplies or you can organize by season or holiday. Use large and inexpensive plastic bins to keep loose items together. Don’t forget to label the top of all boxes with what contents are inside.

If you need it, install extra shelves or vertical cabinets to keep all those boxes and small items off the floor. Pegboards and screw in hooks allow you to mount those larger items and springtime equipment like bicycles and sporting goods right on the wall. Consider moving any hazardous materials or sharp tools to higher shelves to keep family members safe.

Bring out gardening supplies

Now that trees and flowers are ready to be planted or are hopefully already blooming, it time to get prepared in your shed. Check bulbs and any roots that you have kept inside through the winter for overall health. Keep any seedlings inside under a lamp or windowsill until they are ready to be transported outside.

Gather all your planters, pots and other planting vessels together along with gardening tools and other equipment and check for damage. This is also a good time to check your lawnmower and go through the manufacturer’s checklist following winterization.

Prepare recreational supplies

Yay it’s time to break out all those fun recreational supplies to use this spring and summer. Inflate things that have deflated over the long winter like sports balls, pool floats and bicycle tires. Check bicycles for any other necessary repairs before taking them out on a joyride.

Other items on the to-do list could include restringing tennis rackets, mending nets or replacing flat tennis balls. Also, get ready for outdoor entertaining by cleaning your grill and hosing down any outdoor table and chairs.
