Whatever you choose, your Shedquarters will become a welcome addition! Here are some ideas to get you started with converting your shed into your own shedquarters.
Clean
Most likely the inside of your shed isn’t currently the cleanest. If you have been using it for storage then it’s time to take everything out (decide what you are going to keep, store elsewhere or toss), then dust, scrub surfaces and sweep the floor.
This is a key first step to transforming your shed from a place for storage to an addition to your home.
Think about lighting
Cook sheds can come with windows, which is an easy way to add light. Natural light is a great way to make the space look bigger and increase productivity. More lighting is always better, so add some string lights or lanterns to brighten the place up too.
If you want to include more lighting options, then you’ll need to consider adding electricity to your space. Here’s what you should think about before you do.
Depending on what you plan to use your shed for, it could be essential to add electricity, an internet connection, cable, heat/air conditioning, etc. It’s best to leave these types of additions to a licensed professional.
If you plan to use your Shedquarters year round, think about insulating it to protect yourself from extreme hot or cold temperatures.
Add flooring, paneling
Your choice of flooring should directly reflect the use of your Shedquarters. For example, if you plan to use it as a home gym, purchase interlocking rubber tiles to provide the best workout space. Any hard flooring like bamboo is a good choice because it withstands temperature changes and is durable to daily wear and tear.
If you like the look, think about adding paneling or sheet rock to cover any insulation, wiring and to give the room a more homey feel.
Make the space feel larger
Since you will be using the room in your Shedquarters a lot, it’s important to make the space feel as large as possible.
Some tricks include painting walls white or off-white, to reflect light, using vertical bookshelves or art to draw the eye upward or adding wall or floor length mirrors. Our Lofted Barn option has high ceilings, with additional storage space. See inside one here!
Decide on a theme
Decide on a theme for your Shedquarters to center the design and decor around. It could be a pattern, color, favorite texture or anything else. For whatever your Shedquarters is going to be, make your vision for it come to life! Here are 5 inexpensive ways to decorate and organize your shed.
